Pee Wee Ellis "Live and Funky" Album Review
a good album on its own, but as a live album, it's just ok
The music on this album is pretty good, but I have to dock the album a star because it's a live album, yet it has a low-energy vibe. When compared to something like Maceo/Fred/Pee Wee on "Life on Planet Groove" or some of the other JB live recordings from the '80s or '90s, this album just feels... well, it kind of feels like they're acting (as in, like actors reciting lines) instead of jamming and improvising. One can barely hear the crowd, and so I'm not sure the musicians are gaining any energy from the crowd. I sure don't feel it. Also, I've heard Pee Wee do better versions of these songs on other albums, so I give the album a final rating of three stars.

Per amici di lingua italiana, ho acquistato il Cd sul sito americano di Amazon, a chi piace la Mina brasiliana, è un cd che raccomando vivamente !! Rispetto ai pochi prodotti della Costa che si trovano in vendita in Italia è inciso splendidamente e le sonorità del Blu Note di New York sono ideali per la sua personalità musicale, molto soddisfatto dell'acquisto buona musica a tutti Pierluigi

The Daktaris "Soul Explosion" Album Review
faking the funk
Check that cover, man with a bunch of vultures and a lion this must be one super funky african band. With a total lack of information on anybody involved muscially and some very suspicious song titles, oh how clever the title of song seven is, this cd is some white boys' afro fantasy, fake funk all the way through. No african group has ever played music this stiff and unfunky. If you're looking for the real deal afro beat, you know ya gotta go with Fela, and forget this group of out of work rock musicians playing dress up.
